Canada…”You best get up here, Sue!”

My father hates America and now resides in Canada. He’s written books about America being Babylon. He calls New York City “Babylon on the Hudson”. My entire childhood, I was taught to fear and distrust Christians because the church was the one and only Apostate church. I still believe that the western church is “lazy”, if you will, but for the most part, I’ve met some of the most dedicated, loving followers of Christ since moving to Sacramento. Most importantly, my husband. He has taught me perseverance, enduring and unconditional love, and patience; things lacking in my childhood.

My father often phones me up at work and tells me that I must move to Canada before the borders are closed and my children and I end up in concentration camps. He then declares I have two choices: either I get up to Canada (and live in the middle of no where, with the most narrow minded people I’ve been in contact with), or I stay in America and die. However, if those really were my only two options, I certainly would rather die with the ones I love, who love me, and love Christ. Plain and simple.

that’s hilarious and sad at the sametime… i’ve got to say as a Canadian though… there’s plenty of open-minded Christ-loving people here. and good or bad, there’s plenty of america north of the border as well.

i hearing you on dying with people you can love and are loved by. i plan on moving in a couple years and the thought of being out of my zone makes me anxious and nervous at the same time.

it disturbs me when some people have an ‘escape’ is the motivator for people’s moves though. God calls us out into the world, not to huddle up and wait for the world to end.

    Lon,

I hope I didn’t imply that Canadians are closed minded. I meant my father. He lives in a teeny tiny town 200 miles south of the Ukon. There is NO ONE around! His isolation, however, has nothing to do with Canada. He’s always been this way. I love him dearly, and I understand why he operates this way, but that’s not to say it doesn’t hurt.
