A Moment In Time
Here in Sacramento we have a pretty great music scene. I moved out here from Colorado and first caught wind of the scene after I got plugged into Young Life (love Young Life!), and there I met my husband and some ultra hip scenester kids from Sac High. Hanging out with them at the Cattle Club and going to Heath’s shows around town, I got to know some of the local bands, Cake, Pao, Deftones, and of course Simon Feck. However, there was this great band, Little Guilt Shrine (aka LGS). What a band! They could rap, play the accordion, write songs in bizarre and elusive chords and somehow made it work. Like all good things, LGS came to an end. Dana moved onto a great band called Deathray, and I believe Britt and Matt are still playing in some form of LGS, but there was a youth captured at that moment in time. Being at the Cattle Club, jumping up and down with the crowd, screaming the lyrics…it was a time I’ll never have back. But I look forward to Summer and Graeme (my children) being moved by music. There truly is something special about music.
About four years ago, I recorded an album with Heath and some guys from his band. Dana produced it at this pretty divey place called the Hanger. Heath loves it. I hate it. However, I’ve never mixed the album. I’ve never even heard it! Thousands of dollars, so much time and investment, but there is something in me that doesn’t want to finish it. Could it be that I am afraid it might sucketh much? Sure. But really it is the subject matter of most of the songs that I do not care to revisit. Heath begs me to finish it, and I know I should. Some might argue that art captures only a moment in time and would even go so far as to say that capturing that special moment is what makes art art. I know this intellectually, but I give in to my fears. What’s a Sue to do?

I’m fairly sure that one person who was written about on your album “so where should we start” - The Veneable 4 -would not be offended by you releasing or performing music, in fact I think he would think it was great!

BLAH BLAH BLAH - Thanks, Heath. I am fairly sure, however, the next CD this family works on is War Elephant’s.
